4 Bicycle Victoria’s annual 'Ride to Work Day'

A small group of people from our campus took part. The majority of the group met at Gaskin Park at 7.30am before embarking on a 30 minute ride through Churchill finishing at the university. Some of the participants had already endured a ride from their homes in Traralgon, Newborough and Willow Grove. A healthy and substantial breakfast was enjoyed by all in the Private Dining Room on the group’s arrival at the university. A big thank you to the people who took part in this event and also to Harry Ballis, Sharon Foster and Spotless for organising and sponsoring the breakfast.

24 - 29 Australian University Games - Overall Monash & Gippsland Results

The Australian University Games were held in Adelaide during the mid semester break. Approximately 40 students from the Gippsland campus took part in the games and had a fabulous week. Monash University finished second overall, which was a pleasing improvement on last year's 6th place. Unfortunately, the University of Melbourne finished in first place and this win gave them their third national title in a row. The University of Sydney finished in third place.

The Monash Ten Pin Bowling team consisted of mainly Gippsland students and this team won the gold medal. After losing to Deakin the day before 3 games to 2, they came out in the final and blew Deakin away winning 4 games to 1. The Gippsland students who represented Monash in ten pin bowling were Nathan Luke, Rosalie Howard, Malcolm Howard and Michael Johnstone. Nathan Luke, along with David Porto from the Caulfield campus, were both selected in the Ten Pin Green & Gold team, which consisted of the 5 best bowlers from the championship.

Our women's Australian football team finished 5th and the lawn bowls team finished 6th. Unfortunately, the women's football team were missing some good players from their Southern Games team and this proved to be the difference. Aimee Buchan, Kelly Bendon and Kellie Sanders all made the Green & Gold team. The lawn bowlers were very close to playing off for a medal, but unfortunately they just went down to the University of Melbourne in the quarter finals. The men's Australian football team finished 5th and the Gippsland campus had 4 reps in this team.

The Monash Baseball team finished second winning the silver medal and Gippsland student, Mat Prior, was the number one pitcher for this team. Peter Wallis, another Gippsland student, played in the Mixed Netball team, which also won a silver medal.
