What is Monash Discovery Club?

The proposal to establish the Monash Discovery Club arises in response to recent discussions with School principals from the wider Gippsland region. The campus was recently informed that by the time students complete primary schooling, many have already made up their minds whether or not they would go to university. Pathways programs already exist for upper secondary school students, while primary school students are generally unaware of their options when it comes to higher education. Many students completing primary school are unaware of what ‘going to uni’ really is and so may dismiss the idea as an impossible path for them to take into their future.

The Monash Discovery Club aims to be:

  • An instrument for distributing to young people in an appealing and young-people friendly manner information about academic programs, research and other relevant information about Monash University Gippsland Campus;
  • A vehicle for keeping the Gippsland Campus in the consciousness of students;
  • A means of demystifying university study and the Gippsland Campus of Monash;
  • A means of inspiring young people to aim high in their aspirations for the future;
  • An opportunity to promote special education related events on the campus and in the community.
