Megawatt Interactive Electrical Display will be opening at the Binishell from Monday, November 26 until Friday, February 22, 2008. Megawatt is an exciting multi-media exhibition produced by Scienceworks, Museum Victoria and explores the role of electricity in everyday life. 'GIPPSLAND 2007' is the current exhibition at the Switchback Gallery. The exhibition shows the work by students completing the Bachelor of Visual Arts at Monash University. In a year when the region experienced fire, drought and floods the show has an underlying theme of struggling with the environment and includes work by 16 artists who are headed for a range of paths in art practice, teaching or postgraduate study. ‘GIPPSLAND 2007’ continues until 6 February 2008.

General Information

Susan Purdy has curated an exhibition ‘Out of Ash’ to be opened at the Latrobe Regional Gallery from 22 December until 27 January. The exhibition is a collaboration between the Department of Sustainability and Environment and Photogrpahy elective students in the Gippsland Centre for Art and Design. In May this year students went on an excursion to the burnt out areas around Erica with a guide from DSE and took the photographs of the regeneration of the Boola Boola State Forest in early 2007.

At a recent presentation at Clayton campus Gippsland staff member, Robyn Heckenberg received an award from Richard Larkins, in the 2007 round of the Vice Chancellor’s Equity and Diversity Awards. The award was for devising alternate curriculum materials for a student with a disability seeking to complete study. Robyn, who works in Koorie studies, said she was delighted to receive the award and very grateful for the opportunity to allow “creative flexibility within teaching methods”.

The Off-Campus Learning Centre is in desperate need of used envelopes . These envelopes are used to send assignments via the internal mail. Please take a look around your office and send any that you can spare to Anne c/- of Assignments, OCLC, 4N-136.

On behalf of Friends of the Zoo, the Health, Wellbeing & Development team collects corks (both plastic and cork), which are then sent to the Zoo for recycling.  The money raised currently goes towards Stage Two of the Asian Rainforest Exhibit, which includes a separate barn for the male elephant and the acquisition of more cow elephants.  So the Zoo is eager to raise as much as possible towards the costs of the largest exhibit in it's history. For more information, please either contact Cecilia Wright or go to http://www.fotz.org.au/cork.htm

The Recycling Bulletin has now been updated for October 2007.

The Monash Staff Club has discounted cinema tickets available. Adults $10.50 and Children $8.50.  For further information, please please contact Tracey Demetrios (HUMCASS) on extn 26168 between 9am and 3pm Monday to Thursday.
