School Grand Rounds
The Gippsland Medical School in collaboration with the School of Applied
Sciences and Engineering issue an open invitation to attend The Second
Gippsland Medical School Grand Rounds: Scientific Basis of Clinical
Practice lecture and discussion session.
Laureate Professor Colin L Masters will be delivering an address entitled
‘New strategies for diagnosing and treating Alzheimer's disease'.
His main research interests concern Alzheimer’s disease and related
neurodegenerative disorders including the prion diseases (Creutzfeldt-Jakob
disease). His focus has been on the biochemical and molecular
pathways which lead to the accumulation of aggregated proteins in
the brain which have proven to be at the centre of the mechanisms
underlying these disorders.
Colin Masters is also a Laureate Professor at the University of Melbourne
and Executive Director of the Mental Health Research Institute of
Victoria. He is a consultant with Melbourne Health and Neurosciences
Australia, Chair of the National Health Committee and Deputy Chair
of the Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy’s Advisory Committee
of the National Health and Medical Research Council, and co- director
of the Australian National Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Case Registry.
All members of the public are welcome to come to the event, to join and
engage in discussion with world-class researchers on topics of wide-ranging
interest.
It will be held on the 29 May at Monash University Gippsland, Room 4N120.
