The Co-op Program

Real experience. Real rewards.
Are you work ready? Do you want real paid work experience?

What is Co-op? Who is Eligible?

What is Co-op?

The Co-op Program was introduced in 2006 as a joint initiative between Monash University and Gippsland Group Training (GGT). This program was developed to address the emerging skill requirements of regional organisations whilst providing invaluable, paid work experience to select students undertaking their chosen field of study.

The Co-op Program encourages students and employers to build strong relationships throughout the student’s university studies. The combination of academic competence, relevant work experience and additional professional development produces capable, high quality, work ready adults.

Research conducted by Monash University shows that strong competition exists for university graduates entering the workforce. Employers are seeking employees with high academic achievement as well as relevant workplace experience. The Co-op Program provides students with the opportunity to achieve both strong academic results and highly regarded workplace experience combined with appropriate financial remuneration and additional professional development.

Co-op students receive academic credit for the work experience they undertake.

A compulsory academic standard must be maintained for students to continue in the program. Students are encouraged to attend and participate in various social group activities as well as activities to promote the university, the campus and the Co-op Program to future students, parents and the wider community.
