Dr. Daoud graduated from Graz University of Technology, Austria with a Dipl-Ing degree (BS and MS) in Chemical Engineering and received his PhD in Materials Chemistry from the University of Sheffield, UK. He joined Possehl Besi Electronics Hong Kong in the semiconductor substrate industry as a process development engineer to establish a prototype reel-to-reel photoresist coating for high-precision plating. He was then offered a postdoctoral position at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he played a substantial role in the establishment of the Nanotechnology Center with a 14,700,000 HKD fund which earned him the prestigious research fellowship and a lectureship of the University prior to joining Monash to take up a lectureship of organic chemistry.

Dr. Daoud has been recognized for his work on the development of advanced materials and their applications. He has received international renown and several awards for his pioneering work on self-cleaning natural fibers using nanotechnology. This work has been regarded as a breakthrough in the materials community and was featured in Nature (2004) and Science (2008) and made headline news in major international media such as CNN, Discovery Channel, Technology Review, ABC, Daily Mirror, Telegraph, Sydney Morning Herald, Die Welt, and South China Morning Post.
