Zhigang joined Monash University in 2006 and commenced at the School of Applied Sciences and Engineering in 2009.  He has also taught at Tsinghua University and Nagoya University. Teaching areas include steel structures, structural mechanics, concrete structures, and advanced structural analysis. Zhigang has also worked as a research engineer for Pacific Consultants in Japan, and as a structural engineer in Shenyang Institute of Architectural Design, China. Research covers the evaluation and rehabilitation of bridges, structural analysis, structural health monitoring, and fatigue and fracture of welded onshore and offshore structures.  Journal reviewing roles include:  International Journal of Fatigue, Australian Journal of Structural Engineering, the Advances in Structural Engineering, and Thin-Walled Structures.
