Maintenance Management and Reliability EngineeringOverview of our Off-Campus Learning (Distance Education) programsMaintenance and reliability engineering for physical asset management is a powerful tool in improving industrial profitability. This is surely never more required with many assets required to be longer in service and to work better. Hundreds of engineers, managers and senior technical people from 20 countries have increased their skills and capability through Monash University postgraduate programs. Students range in age from mid-20s to mid-50s: it is never too late to study. Organisations from many industries have gained through such investment in their people’s knowledge and skills, and people have equipped themselves for career advancement. Engineers Australia a dramatic swing away from managers without up-to-date technical skills, and that retraining in technical postgraduate courses was the best way for managers to boost their skills: an MBA no longer guaranteed improved earning power. "In tough economic times like these, companies are often tempted to cut employee training and professional development programs. But a closer look at its value reveals that professional development might be more worthwhile than they think. The obvious argument for continuing to invest in professional development is that well-trained, skilled employees are important to an organisation's long-term success. This is because professional development results in more productive, quality focused, and committed employees who will remain with the company once the economy rebounds and the competition starts recruiting again". (From message to ASME members, Dec 2008). The programs are only offered by off-campus learning, and are continually updated. Study materials are paper-based with web-enhanced delivery. All units are run every year, and are offered on the 13-week semester basis that is usual for Monash units. Students without a degree or diploma can study one or two units, and if passed well, can transfer with full credit into a Graduate Certificate program (not if enrolled via University of Tennessee, however). Our teaching staff are a combination of academics with international standing and engineers currently working in Australia and outside. Students maintain contact via email, and sometimes by phone. All units have assessment by 3 - 4 assignments, and most have an examination, run anywhere in the world. Use your BACK button and explore our site to find more about our programs, the units of study and the staff. The programs satisfy the requirement of Engineers Australia for Continuing Professional Development, with an hour for hour allowance towards the 150h over each 3 years required to maintain Chartered status.
